Descrizione:Anecortave acetate is a steroid that has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis and has been approved for the treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. It is a prodrug that undergoes enzymatic cleavage by esterases to release the active form, acetate. This drug is found in high concentrations in the sclera, which could be related to its ability to inhibit angiogenesis. Anecortave acetate inhibits viral replication and inflammation by binding to receptors on cells with these functions. Anecortave acetate also binds to monoclonal antibodies that are used as imaging agents for angiography and fluorescein angiography studies. The anti-angiogenic properties of this drug have been studied using pharmacokinetics studies, animal toxicity studies, and chemical biology approaches.
