Astrophloxine is a fluorescent dye that is used in the process of amyloidogenesis, which is the production and deposition of insoluble proteins. The fluorescence of Astrophloxine can be used to monitor the process of amyloidogenesis, as well as to identify fluorophores in biological samples. This dye has been shown to have no adverse effects on cells and tissues. It has also been shown to bind to hydrophobic surfaces such as polystyrene, glass, and silicon.
