4-Amino-2,6-dichlorophenol is a synthetic chemical that is used in the synthesis of piperonyl butoxide. 4-Amino-2,6-dichlorophenol has been shown to be a reactive compound that can bind with human serum albumin and inhibit the activity of dehydrogenase enzymes. The binding of this chemical to albumin decreases the amount of free fatty acids in human plasma. This results in an increase in the concentration of high density lipoproteins (HDL) and a decrease in low density lipoproteins (LDL). 4-Amino-2,6-dichlorophenol has been shown to have some effect on metabolism, as it has been shown to inhibit transport processes. 4-Amino-2,6-dichlorophenol may also be used cosmetically as an antioxidant or as a sunscreen agent.
