• Descrizione: 2-Amino-5-methylbenzonitrile (2AMB) is a molecule that has two nitrile groups. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer cells, and it also inhibits thymidylate synthase (TS), an enzyme involved in DNA synthesis. The crystallographic structure of this compound has been determined by x-ray diffraction studies, and 2AMB was synthesized and assayed for its anticancer activity on human lung cancer cells in culture. 2AMB is an intercalator that binds to DNA by inserting itself between base pairs, which then blocks the progression of DNA synthesis during replication. This type of inhibition causes cell death because the cell cannot divide or make new proteins. Naphthalene and pyrrole are two chemicals found in 2AMB that have been shown to have antibacterial properties.
