Anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid sodium salt monohydrate (AQASM) is a gold nanoparticle that can be used as an effective catalyst for the oxidative degradation of ethylene diamine. AQASM has been shown to have photocatalytic activity in the presence of light and voltammetric properties. It also has linear range for chloride concentrations, with high values obtained at low concentrations. This compound is able to oxidize proteins and inorganic substances, such as sodium carbonate and sodium nitrate. The functional groups are responsible for the electrochemical properties of this compound. The energy efficiency of AQASM makes it an attractive alternative to other catalysts, such as palladium or platinum.
