Acetoacetamide is a neutralizing agent that reacts with hydrochloric acid to form acetic acid and potassium chloride. Acetoacetamide has been shown to be reactive with the hydroxyl group on the mitochondrial membrane, forming covalent adducts. Acetoacetamide is also used as a reagent in vitro assays for the determination of acetoacetate (a ketone body) and methyl anthranilate. The process optimization for this compound involves amide formation and carbonyl group reduction.
