DL-allo-Threonine is an amino acid that is found in plants. DL-allo-Threonine inhibits aldolases, which are enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of 2-aminoisobutyric acid into d-threonine and acetaldehyde. It also has been shown to have cell lysis effects on bacteria and solid tumours. DL-allo-Threonine may be useful as a potential drug for bacterial infections and cancer treatments. The inhibitory activity of this compound is due to its hydroxyl group in the γ position, which can form an intramolecular hydrogen bond with the δ carbon atom of the side chain.
