The compound is soluble in alcohols and ethers, but insoluble in water. 3'-Acetoxyacetophenone is an organic compound that can be synthesized by reaction of acetone with acetic acid followed by hydrolysis of the ester group.3'-Acetoxyacetophenone can be used as an intermediate for synthesis, for example to produce amines via nucleophilic attack or ketones via elimination reactions with alcohols. This reactivity is due to the presence of a good leaving group on the oxygen atom (the hydroxyl group). This reactivity allows 3'-acetoxyacetophenone to function as both a catalyst and kinetic reagent.
