1-Acetyl-5-bromoindoline is an organic compound with the formula CH3COCH2CH(Br)CH2NH. It is a colorless solid that is soluble in organic solvents. The compound undergoes several reactions, including chloromethylation, amination, and hydrogenation. 1-Acetyl-5-bromoindoline can be used as a precursor to other compounds through catalytic hydrogenation or deprotection of alcohols. This compound has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the epimerization of lactones and β-lactams, such as penicillin G.
