Ajugol is a cox-2 inhibitor that has been proven to be effective in inhibiting the production of inflammatory prostaglandins. Ajugol is a natural compound found in the seeds of Ajuga plants, and it inhibits COX-2 enzymes by binding to the active site of these enzymes, preventing them from converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2 (PGH2). Ajugol has been shown to inhibit the growth of HLA-60 cells and induce apoptosis by increasing mitochondrial membrane potential. This drug also reduces the production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β. The pharmacokinetic properties and analytical methods for this drug are not well understood. Ajugol has also been shown to be effective in treating autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes mellitus.
