Artemetin is a sesquiterpene lactone that inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential and matrix effect. Artemetin has been shown to be cytotoxic against HL-60 cells, which is indicative of its antiinflammatory activity. It also has significant cytotoxicity against skin cancer cells, with a mechanism of action involving the inhibition of synthesis of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Artemetin has been shown to be effective as an inhibitor for the enzyme target in model systems and as a plate test reagent. There are no known adverse reactions associated with this drug.
