2,4'-Dimethoxybenzophenone is a photoinduced organic compound that absorbs light in the UV region. It has been shown to be a singlet oxygen decay catalyst and can produce singlet oxygen as a result of absorption of light. This molecule is used in some sunscreens as an absorber for ultraviolet radiation. 2,4'-Dimethoxybenzophenone has also been observed to absorb light in the visible region and convert it into energy in the form of triplet excitation. The energy can then be converted into emission by the molecule or transferred to another molecule through triplet-triplet annihilation. The absorption spectrum for this molecule includes a peak at 290 nm with an extinction coefficient of 4 × 10 M/cm.
