Descrizione

Thiothixene is a drug used to treat schizophrenia that belongs to the class of antipsychotics. It is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and has been shown to be effective in treating chronic schizophrenia. Thiothixene also has anti-nervous system activities, which are due to its ability to inhibit the release of acetylcholine. This drug binds with high affinity to α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and blocks the flow of chloride ions across the cell membrane, leading to an accumulation of negatively charged ions inside the cell. The drug also inhibits mineralization and has been shown to prevent structural heart disease in animals. Thiothixene may be harmful if taken with pyrite or salinity because it can cause oxidative damage in redox potential environments. The drug can also cause plasma mass spectrometry profiles that show changes in carboniferous content, which may be related to the development of nervous system diseases.
