It can be used as an extractant for metal cations in the presence of water. 2-(2-Bromoethoxy)-2-methylpropane has been shown to have ion channel inhibition properties. This compound will bind to the hydrophobic cavities of ion channels, which prevents the flow of ions through the channel.
