3-Bromoheptane is a solvent that is used in the production of polystyrene, which is a plastic material. It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals. 3-Bromoheptane has been shown to be an efficient reagent for the preparation of alkyl bromides from alkyl halides and nitrates.
