It has been shown to react with divalent metal ions such as Mg, Ca, and Zn to form stable coordination complexes. 3-Bromo-2-fluorophenyl)methanol is soluble in water, alcohols, and ethers and is insoluble in hydrocarbons. This compound reacts with activated carbonyl groups to form an addition product. The reaction product of this compound with nitro groups forms a nitroso adduct that can be used for the preparation of microcapsules. 3-Bromo-2-fluorophenyl)methanol also reacts with surfactants to form surface active compounds.
