The elimination reactions of 3-bromobenzofuran have been extensively studied, which involve protonation, boronic acid addition, and nucleophilic substitution. Kinetic studies have shown that the reaction rate is dependent on the functional group present on 3-bromobenzofuran. The skeleton of 3-bromobenzofuran can be modified to produce aryl boronic acids or carbinols through a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction with an aryl halide or chloride.
