This compound has been shown to inhibit fatty acid biosynthesis, and it is also an amide reductase inhibitor and antibiotic. 3-Bromo-4-methoxyphenol is most commonly used as a bioreductive agent in the synthesis of dioxolanes and allylation reactions. It is also stereoselective, meaning that it only reacts with one of two possible configurations of the double bond at the same time.
