4-Bromo-1-naphthoic acid is a naphthalimide compound that undergoes base hydrolysis to produce salicylic acid. It has been used as an insecticidal agent and a precursor to other compounds. 4-Bromo-1-naphthoic acid can be synthesized from naphthalene by reacting it with chlorine or bromine. This chemical is also known as 1,4-dibromonaphthalene. The kinetics of 4-bromo-1-naphthoic acid have been studied extensively in vessels, which are small tubes containing liquid that are closely fitted with a rubber stopper on one end. This study showed that the rate of hydrolysis was proportional to the concentration of alkali metal ions present in the solution, and that this rate increased with increased temperature.
