It has been shown to induce histological changes in the colon and stomach, as well as inflammatory bowel disease. The compound also induces hl-60 cells to produce inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8. 1-Bromo-1-chloropropane may be used to study the toll receptor pathway, which is a signaling pathway involved in the immune system. The chemical induces the activation of toll-like receptor 4 by triggering apoptosis in human alopecia areata cells. 1-Bromo-1-chloropropane can also be used for polymerase chain reaction studies and biological sample analysis.
