- 5-Bromo-isoquinoline
5-Bromoisoquinoline is a diazo compound that has been shown to be an effective anticancer drug. It is structurally similar to the natural amino acid histidine, which is found in all living cells. 5-Bromoisoquinoline is active against a range of cancer cell lines, with a significant inhibition rate (IC50) of 0.5 μmol/L. The mechanism of action for 5-bromoisoquinoline appears to be due to its ability to react with terminal alkynes and form imines that can bind to DNA or RNA, inhibiting the synthesis of proteins and leading to cell death.
