Barium hydroxide monohydrate is an inorganic compound that is used as a reagent to measure the concentration of water vapor in air. The hydroxide ion forms a white precipitate with water vapor, which can be collected and weighed to determine the amount of water vapor present in the air sample. This method has been shown to have a high resistance to interference from atmospheric gases, such as nitrogen and oxygen. The reaction mechanism for this analytical method is oxidation of copper chloride by barium hydroxide monohydrate.
