5-(Biotinamido)pentylamine is a biotin analog that has been shown to induce necrotic cell death in plants. It is believed that the biotin analog binds to enzymes involved in the production of fibrinogen and casein, thereby inhibiting their activity and leading to cell death. The biotin analog also up-regulated genes related to actin filament formation, growth factor signaling, and granule neuron development in plants. 5-(Biotinamido)pentylamine has not been tested on animals or humans. However, it may be used as a diagnostic tool for light-exposed sites.
