4-(Bromomethyl)-6,7-dimethoxycoumarin (4-BMDC) is a fluorescent derivative of 6,7-dimethoxycoumarin. 4-BMDC has been used as a marker for the detection of p-nitrophenyl phosphate in urine samples. The analytical method involves the use of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry and monoclonal antibodies. 4-BMDC binds to sarcoplasmic proteins and carboxylate groups on rat liver microsomes with high affinity. It also reacts with tryptophan residues on proteins in human serum.
