Descrizione:3-Bromopyridine N-oxide is the protonated amide form of 3-bromopyridine. It can be synthesized by reacting 3-bromoquinoline with mercuric chloride in a polar solvent such as methanol or ethanol. The reaction product is a mixture of 3-bromopyridine N-oxide and 3-chloropyridine N-oxide. The reaction proceeds via nucleophilic substitution at the nitrogen atom of the pyridine ring, which is followed by elimination of hydrogen bromide from the β position. This reaction is an efficient method for producing 3-bromopyridine N-oxide, since it does not require any chemical steps other than those required to produce 3-bromoquinoline.
