4-Bromo-4'-chloro-1,1'-biphenyl is a volatile compound that is used as a model species for the determination of halogenated aromatic compounds. It has been found to be present in the environment as a result of its use in commercial products and industrial processes. It has been detected in human tissues at levels up to 10 times higher than background levels. 4-Bromo-4'-chloro-1,1'-biphenyl can react with chlorine from the atmosphere to form dibenzofurans and other chlorinated benzenes. It is not reactive towards other chemicals and does not degrade under normal conditions.
