- 2-Bromoanthracene-9,10-Dione
- Bromoanthraquinone
2-Bromoanthraquinone is a molecule that was synthesized by the reaction of hydrochloric acid and diacetate. It has a redox potential of -0.07 V, which is close to the potential of ferrocene (-0.12 V). 2-Bromoanthraquinone has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus, but not against Escherichia coli or Bacillus subtilis. When exposed to light, 2-bromoanthraquione forms a ruthenium complex with an absorption maximum at 464 nm and photocatalytic activity for the oxidation of chloride ions. The main products are anthracene and hydrogen chloride gas. 2-Bromoanthraquinone can also be used as an electrochemical probe in order to study the reaction selectivity between different electron donors such as chloride ions and ferrocene.
