Boc-L-norleucine is a modified hydroxamic acid that binds to the receptor site of the enzyme methionine aminopeptidase. This leads to a decrease in the production of polypeptides, which are essential for bacterial growth. Boc-L-norleucine has been shown to inhibit methionine aminopeptidase and pseudopeptide synthesis in gram negative bacterial cells. It also inhibits chloride ion uptake and appears to bind to the receptor sites on gram negative bacteria by using fluorescence data. Boc-L-norleucine is synthesized through chemoenzymatic methods and contains oligosaccharides and tetrapeptides.
