Benzyl (S)-(-)-lactate is a benzyl ester that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of chemical compounds. It is a white solid that can be synthesized by the reaction of benzyl chloride and lactic acid. The rate enhancement observed with this compound makes it ideal for use in kinetic, enzymatic assays, and solid-phase synthetic reactions. Benzyl (S)-(-)-lactate has been shown to enhance the rates of these reactions at high concentrations and at low concentrations. This product can also be used as a carbon source for lactate production or as a natural compound in organic chemistry. Benzyl (S)-(-)-lactate can be analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (Hplc).
