5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde is an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the active site of DNA gyrase. It has been shown to interact with the nitrogen atoms in the active site of DNA gyrase, inhibiting its function and preventing the formation of a molecule that is essential for cell division. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde binds to the diffraction molecules in a single crystal x-ray diffraction experiment. The hydrogen bonds formed between 5-bromo 2 hydroxy 3 methoxybenzaldehyde and oxygen atoms are responsible for this interaction.
