It has been shown to interact with the nitrogen atoms in the active site of DNA gyrase, inhibiting its function and preventing the formation of a molecule that is essential for cell division. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde binds to the diffraction molecules in a single crystal x-ray diffraction experiment. The hydrogen bonds formed between 5-bromo 2 hydroxy 3 methoxybenzaldehyde and oxygen atoms are responsible for this interaction.
