The compound is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. It has been reported that 1,1′-biphenyl-2,2′-dibromoethane can be prepared from 1-bromo-3,4-difluorobenzene by cycloaromatization with palladium, followed by cross coupling with 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethanol. This method provides 1,1′-biphenyl-2,2′-dibromoethane in good yield with high purity.
