1-(2'-Bromophenyl)-1-hydroxyethane is a biomolecule that has been shown to inhibit the growth of corynebacterium. This inhibition is stereoselective, with the (S) form being more effective than the (R) form. The oxidation products of this compound are produced by catalytic dehydration of formate and ethyl group elimination, which produce ferrocene and hydroxymethylferrocene respectively.
