4-Bromobutyryl chloride is a chemical compound that is used as a fluorescence probe, which can be used to identify the presence of hydroxyl groups. 4-Bromobutyryl chloride has been shown to react with corynebacterium glutamicum, which is an organism that produces acetyichydrofolate synthetase. This reaction leads to the formation of acetyichydrofolate and acetylchloride. The reaction is a kinetic process and can be followed by measuring fluorescence intensity or quenching of the excited state of the probe. The reaction also occurs in fungi, such as yeast and Penicillium chrysogenum, and in mammalian cells.
