2-Bromo-5-hydroxypyrazine is a chemical compound that inhibits the transcription of genes and has potent antiproliferative activities. It has been shown to be effective in cancer cell lines and tumor cells, but not in normal cells. 2-Bromo-5-hydroxypyrazine can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. It also has an inhibitory activity against the bromodomain, which is a protein domain found on some proteins that are involved in gene transcription. Bromodomains are key targets for anticancer drugs because they regulate gene transcription. Modulating this domain may have therapeutic benefits for cancers that involve bromodomain proteins such as promyelocytic leukemia (PML) or retinoblastoma (RB).
