It has been shown to inhibit the polymerase of human myeloid leukemia cells. 5-Bromo-2-methylbenzothiazole can be used as a fluorescent and phase transfer catalyst, and has optimum activity at pH 7.0. 5-Bromo-2-methylbenzothiazole is an inhibitor of transcription in cells of the myeloid lineage, such as acute myeloid leukemia cells.
