• Descrizione: 2-[[Bis(4-fluorophenyl)methyl]sulfinyl]acetamide, also known as Modafinil, is a wake-promoting drug that is used in the treatment of excessive sleepiness in patients who are unable to stay awake during the day. It has been approved by the FDA for use in narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. Modafinil is believed to work by promoting dopamine release in the brain, although this has not yet been confirmed. The efficacy of modafinil for improving wakefulness in patients with excessive sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome has not been established. Modafinil may be used off-label to promote alertness and attention, usually when the cause of the symptoms cannot be determined or when a diagnosis is unclear. This drug can cause serious side effects including skin reactions, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and angioedema.
