1-(Chloromethyl)-2,4,5-trifluorobenzene is an industrial chemical that is used for the chlorination of organic compounds. It is a chlorinating agent that can be used as a catalyst in the alkali-catalyzed carbonylation reaction. The optimum condition for this reaction is at 100°C and atmospheric pressure. The reactant paraformaldehyde is converted to 1,3,5-trioxane by reacting with chlorine gas in the presence of a catalyst such as tetracarbonyl nickel. 1-(Chloromethyl)-2,4,5-trifluorobenzene reacts with chloride ions to produce hydrochloric acid and formaldehyde. Chloromethylation occurs when one molecule of 1-(chloromethyl)-2,4,5-trifluorobenzene reacts with one molecule of formaldehyde to produce chloroform and methyl chloride.
