4-Chloro-3-nitro-2H-chromen-2-one is a monosubstituted aromatic compound that has a hydrochloric acid salt. It is used as an additive in the production of sodium salts, amines, and coumarin derivatives. 4-Chloro-3-nitro-2H-chromen-2-one has been shown to be labile and can be easily degraded by irradiation or nitration. This compound also has nucleophile properties, which make it a good candidate for use as an intermediate in other organic synthesis reactions. 4CNO is also able to form stable complexes with chloride, phosphorus oxychloride, and halogens.
