Clenbuterol hydrochloride is a bronchodilator that has been used to treat asthma and other lung diseases. It has been shown to inhibit the spread of syncytial virus infection in a primary sclerosing cholangitis model. Clenbuterol hydrochloride has also been shown to increase the production of nitric oxide, which may be beneficial in treating bowel disease. The colloidal gold assay can be used as an analytical method for detecting clenbuterol in biological samples with a high degree of sensitivity and specificity. This assay is based on the chemiluminescence reaction of clenbuterol with colloidal gold particles, which emit light when they react with each other.
