Descrizione

Crocetin is a carotenoid that belongs to the group of natural compounds. It has been shown to have anticancer effects, and may be used as a potential anticancer agent. Crocetin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and can be used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel syndrome and other autoimmune diseases. This compound also has antioxidant effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Crocetin has been shown to inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in vitro by binding with MMP-9 and preventing it from degrading collagen type I. This compound also inhibits neuronal death induced by radiation or glutamate, and can be used as a potential radioprotectant.
