Citrus bioflavonoids are natural compounds found in citrus fruits. They have been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity and inhibit the production of inflammatory prostaglandins. Citrus bioflavonoids may also be used as an antioxidant, which can protect cells from oxidative damage by free radicals. Citrus bioflavonoids may also be effective against skin cancer by increasing the time required for UV light to produce DNA mutations in skin cells. Their effects on other biological processes such as the metabolic rate and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) have not been well studied.
