3-(Chloromethyl)benzoic acid is a chemical that belongs to the class of amines. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in human liver cancer cells, and has fluorescence properties. 3-(Chloromethyl)benzoic acid can be synthesized from commercially available starting materials by solid-phase synthesis. This compound has metal ion binding properties and photochromism. 3-(Chloromethyl)benzoic acid can be used as a chloride ion source for metal surface treatment or as an organic solvent in hydrochloric acid reactions. 3-(Chloromethyl)benzoic acid also shows anti-cancer activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis, DNA replication, and cell division.
