p-Chlorophenylcyanoguanidine is an organic compound that contains a nitro group, and is therefore classified as a nitrate. It has been shown to exhibit antibacterial activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It exhibits this activity by inhibiting the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase, which is responsible for aerobic respiration in bacteria. The mechanism of action for this compound does not depend on its chemical structure or the presence of other functional groups.
