Trans-1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol is prepared industrially by the reaction of cyclohexane with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. The chemical structure of trans-1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol consists of two hydroxyl groups, one carboxylic acid group, two carbonyl groups and three conformational properties. The major industrial use is as a chemical intermediate for the manufacture of dyes and pharmaceuticals.
