Descrizione:b-Cholestanol is a fatty acid that is used as a test compound in molecular modeling. It has been shown to be metabolized by the enzyme soybean lipoxygenase, which converts it to hydroxycholestanol. Hydroxycholestanol has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the lipid peroxidation of hydrophobic lipids in human feces, which may be due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species. b-Cholestanol has also been shown to be effective in treating cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, a metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood and tissues.
