Cyclopentylamine is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C9H14N. It is an organic amine that has the chemical properties of both a primary and secondary amine. Cyclopentylamine can be synthesized from cyclopentanone and ammonia, which are reacted in the presence of hydrochloric acid as a catalyst. Cyclopentylamine has been shown to inhibit DPP-IV, an enzyme that breaks down proteins in the intestines. This may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting production of prostaglandins, which are substances involved in inflammation. Cyclopentylamine is used as a starting material for synthesis of other chemical compounds such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and herbicides.
