3-Chloro-4-fluorobenzylamine is a potent inhibitor of HIV integrase that has been shown to inhibit the catalytic activity of this enzyme. 3-Chloro-4-fluorobenzylamine is a transferase inhibitor, preventing the binding of the drug substrate to the active site of the enzyme. It also inhibits amide formation and amines, which are necessary for protein synthesis. This drug has been shown to be resistant to mutant strains of HIV and can be used as an anti-HIV agent. 3-Chloro-4-fluorobenzylamine binds tightly to hydrophobic regions in enzyme active sites and inhibits the integration and replication of HIV in cells.
