4-Chloro-3-nitrobenzophenone is a regiospecific, immobilized, electron-deficient chlorinating agent that can be used to analyze the interaction between the substrate and the enzyme. The binding constant of 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzophenone with Mycobacterium tuberculosis was found to be 5.5 x 10 M. In addition, it has been shown that 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzophenone is a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth in vitro. This compound also inhibits tuberculosis by destroying the DNA and RNA synthesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The functional groups on this chemical are chloro and nitro groups, which are electron deficient and cause a negative charge on this molecule.
