2-Chlorobenzamide is a compound that belongs to the group of benzoylphenylurea derivatives. It has been shown to be a good substrate for hydrogen bonding and has high values in analytical methods. 2-Chlorobenzamide is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as 2-chlorobenzoic acid and 2-chloroaniline. It can also be used in the production of pesticides and herbicides, such as paraquat and diquat. The degradation product of 2-chlorobenzamide, 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2one, is carcinogenic in humans.
