Descrizione:Cystamine sulfate is a medicine that is used to treat paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose. Cystamine sulfate is an inhibitor of the enzyme cysteine dioxygenase, which converts L-cysteine to L-cysteine sulfinic acid. The inhibition of this enzyme results in the accumulation of L-cysteine and its oxidation product, hydrogen sulfide. Cystamine sulfate has been shown to be more efficient than other methods for preventing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) from reacting in a chain reaction with oxygen and forming organic solvents such as acetone or formaldehyde. Cystamine sulfate also inhibits the expression of enzymes involved in oxidizing reactive oxygen species such as superoxide radicals or hydrogen peroxide. This drug can also inhibit uptake of materials by cells and reactions between compounds that lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species.
